Talking about gender and sexual diversity with parents

Brief description of the issue

Homophobia and sexual orientation are part of the mandatory sexuality education program, which includes family diversity. The vast majority of people are open to talking with children about family diversity. Despite that, you will occasionally have to convince them of the importance of your choices and approach.

To go along with the Otis and Alice activity, the LGBT Family Coalition created a guide to help teachers and educators willing to facilitate this activity respond to questions that could arise from their colleagues and their students’ parents. The guide offers answers based on provincial laws and the provincial school program to questions often touchy that can be asked by parents.
