A Guide for Gender Equality in Teacher Education Policy and Practices

Brief description of the issue

Youth endorsing gender stereotypes the most are the ones who leave school early the most. To facilitate boys’ and girls’ school retention, it is then crucial to break down gender stereotypes as soon as children start to believe them as a norm. However, teachers sometimes unconsciously reinforce these gender stereotypes through their interactions with their students. Where can we start to transform our practices?

The Guide for Gender Equality in Teacher Education Policy and Practices has been conceived to be a practical tool to promote a gender-responsive institutional culture. It seeks to strengthen the capacity of teacher educators, managers and student teachers to transform their practices effectively through innovative participatory approaches to teaching and learning.
